Church of St. John in Liptovský Ján
History & Culture
Roman Catholic Church. John the Baptist was built in the late 13th century the area of the original chapel in honor of the victory over the Tatars. After structural modifications to the building are noticeable traces of different styles. The glory of the church is Gothic main altar with a statue of the Madonna from 1740 and two hundred original organ, which comes from Martinus Zorkovská of Kremnice. The rarity of the ancient church bell (Genga) from 1576 located in a small turret. In the church there are three crypt spaces. Research has shown that behind the main altar are the stairs leading to the underground passages. It is interesting that when you sit quietly in the church and hear the bubbling springs that are located underneath.
