Východná is a distinctive Liptov municipality known mainly for its folklore traditions. The municipality features a unique area with an amphitheatre, where the oldest folk-art festival in Slovakia – the Východná Folklore Festival – known all over the world, is celebrated every year. The dominant feature of this area is the 28 m high "Májka" observation tower, from which visitors can enjoy views of the entire area, the municipality of Východná, but above all a beautiful panorama of the High, Western and Low Tatras. There is also an exhibition of wooden folk sculptures in the area. You can get to the observation tower directly from the parking lot within the area.

Pumped hydroelectric energy storage Čierny Váh consists of two tanks.

The Važecká Cave is one of the most known caves in the northern Slovakia. Though by length it belongs among the short show caves, it is known by occurrence of rich dripstone decoration, remarkable findings of cave bear bones, as well as by rare cave fauna.
